This game was first released on PC and consoles but can now be played on Android well; it’s a blend of science fiction and horror genres.
Lately we’ve witnessed the emergence of top notch games, on our smartphones that offer engaging gameplay experiences leveraging the capabilities of our devices graphics features that rival those found on console platforms, like PlayStation or Xbox.
Alien Isolation is an example of this situation; initially released on consoles and PC before making its way, to devices as well. Moreover it holds another benefit in its corner ; its storyline, which is intricately woven into one of the science fiction film series. The combination of these factors culminates in one of the top notch games, on Android. I must say I am thoroughly engrossed in it.
“Alien;Isolation stands out as one of the video game adaptations of a movie. Is available, for play, on your mobile device.”
Alien Isolation is set in the universe of the Alien franchise which originated from the 1979 movie, by Ridley Scott. The games storyline unfolds between the events of the film and the sequel Aliens released in 1986.
In Alien: Isolation we learn the story of Amanda Ripley, daughter of the legendary Ellen Ripley from the movies. Amanda is searching for her mother, 15 years after her disappearance, and her search takes her to a space station where she will discover that there is a creature that is not human.
The game is a mix of horror and stealth , so we cannot face the creature but try to sneak, escape and avoid attracting its attention, using a motion tracker (like the ones we saw in the movies) to try to detect where the monster is. This formula results in a title that puts us in the shoes of its protagonist, in the middle of dark corridors and a gloomy situation.
And the creature feels cunning in the game. It gets used to our movements, and sometimes it even seems like it can predict our actions, or at least that’s the impression we get. The story also immerses us in the lore of Alien and expands on it , something I appreciate, as a science fiction fan.
It is, without a doubt, an intense and tense experience that I am enjoying and suffering on my mobile in equal parts; yes, I suffer it too, because I am a bit of a coward with this type of games.
The mobile adaptation of Alien: Isolation is very good. When playing, we use the on-screen touch controls to move around, interact with objects and the world in general, and to use the limited tools we have at our disposal.
It is worth highlighting the graphic quality of this title, I have a high-end smartphone and it is clear that it takes advantage of its power, offering exceptional graphic quality and a great level of detail , few games look as good on mobile phones today. And when I don’t want to use the on-screen controls, I can use a joystick-type accessory for mobile phones , achieving an experience even closer to a portable video game console.
Alien: Isolation was originally released in 2014 for PC and PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Over the years it reached more platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and Mac, and at the end of 2021 it landed on Android and iOS . The game is available on the Google Play Store as a free download , but this only allows access to the first two missions; the rest of the campaign and additional content or DLC are unlocked with a one-time purchase of around 11.5 euros.
So, we can download and try out those two missions to decide whether we want to play it or not, before buying. Personally, I have no hesitation in recommending it to any horror and film fan. It is, overall, a great game that we can now enjoy directly on our mobile or tablet.
