The PlayStation 5 Pro is here, but I don’t need it. Here’s how I play the PlayStation on my Android phone

Playing PS5 on mobile offers greater versatility to play almost anywhere, regardless of whether you have the original PS5 or the new ‘Pro’ version

Sony has already presented the new PlayStation 5 Pro , a model of the desktop console that we had been hearing rumors about for several months, but which is now official. It is a more advanced, more powerful and also more expensive model . Its price in Europe is 800 euros.

I’ve been a PlayStation 5 user since shortly after its original launch in November 2020. I’ve enjoyed a lot of games since then, and I’m always on the lookout for new releases, such as the recent Astro Bot and the excellent Elden Ring DLC . But for the past few months I’ve barely played the PlayStation on the TV, instead playing on my Android phone . It’s become a really handy way to enjoy quick games anywhere, without having to occupy the living room TV. And that’s all I need.

An accessory (or a controller) and an internet connection to play PS5 from my mobile

The decision to play on your phone instead of your TV is a personal one, but one that seems to be shared by many. Remember the PlayStation Portal ? This is a sort of portable console that works in conjunction with a PS5 via remote play , and while many thought no one would be interested, the reality is that it’s selling like hotcakes in some territories.

Playing the Play on your mobile is essentially the same, as it uses the same remote play system, only this time we do it directly on our smartphone thanks to an Android app.

As for controls, we have several options: we can use the virtual controls on the mobile screen, we can use a Bluetooth controller like the DualSense or a DualShock 4 (yes, the PS4 one works too), or we can use a joystick-type accessory , which is what I did, thus turning my Android mobile into a kind of PS Portal .

The overall experience is excellent, as long as you have a good internet connection. I only have issues with some games where the text is too small and abundant, and on my mobile screen it can be a bit difficult to read, even though it is a nearly 7-inch screen.

To play Play remotely from your mobile, follow these steps:

We download the PS Remote Play application on our Android mobile from the Google Play Store

We log in to the app with the same PSN account as on the PlayStation 5

On the PS5, go to the settings menu, then to the System section and activate the possibility of using Remote Play

Then, we just have to open the PS Remote Play app on our mobile, select our console and that’s it, we’ll start playing the Play directly from our Android smartphone. This gives us access to the same console, with the same games, remotely, ideal for playing a few games in bed before going to sleep , or for playing anywhere in the house.

The PS5 Pro promises to be a very advanced console, with more processing power and optimized games with the best graphics and performance , but to play a few games and complete some missions in a title from the Yakuza saga (Like a Dragon) or to continue advancing in that RPG game that feels almost infinite, remote play from mobile is an ideal ally, so much so that in 2024 it is the way I have played the most.
